Welcome to our new "Behind the Scenes" home!

For years we have heard the same thing from people - "I didn't know The Life Link did all that!" We have never been ones to toot our own horn much, which some say to us, "Start tootin"!

It's time to get out the word of what we do and have done. What you will find here are some photos, film clips, and other things that hopefully will entice you to place us in your bookmarks so you can visit often.

We started as an emergency shelter for homeless families in Nov of 1987. We also found out that there were many other needs to be addressed, like substance abuse and mental health problems. Basically since we opened, we have been providing services around these three areas: Homelessness, Mental Health, and Substance Addiction. In our agency, a person may have just one of the three or any combination. The top 2 floors of our building houses those who have been homeless and are experiencing mental health problems. Our housing here is considered "permanent" housing, so folks can stay as long as needed before re-entering the housing world on their own.

The bottom floor holds both administration and community support services for clients of The Life Link. Of particular note, the top two floors do not contain straight hallways. Since our architect was a former social worker she did not want our clients to feel like they were constantly living in hotel or hospital. Our housing is just that - housing for the mentally-ill homeless, but with peer support and case management included. The locks on the building keep people from coming in, not going out. This provides both freedom and safety for our clients as they recover.

Behind The Scenes will also keep you posted on some of our other partners and what they are up to. For instance,
Life Link Training Institute has not began to hold workshops on the nationally-recognized, "Mental Health First Aid". This is tremendously exciting. You can read more at our Life Link Training Institute site.
